So what do we do?
Academic Students: Must choose one of the following products for their project.
Honors Students: Must complete both portions of the project.
1. Research the chronology of events leading up to the Scottsboro Trials. Using TimeToast, create an timeline including at least 15 of the most important events. Any pictures you can include will make this more awesome! Another option is to create a timeline using posterboard and printed images and explanations. For your TimeToast timeline, go to www.timetoast.com. You will need to set up a free account, for which you will use your email. Choose at least 15 significant events from the Scootsboro case to represent in your timeline. You can embed photos, historical documents, or videos into the timeline which will make it extra-awesome! Make sure all items used are cited or are from creative commons!
2. Analyze the language in the headlines and statements from witnesses that came out during the trials. Pay close attention to the pronouns used to describe both the Scottsboro boys and the others involved in the trial. What do you notice about the language and what could that mean about the time and setting of the trial? Draw conclusions and report back to the class in the form of a Prezi or PowerPoint. As you analyze the language from both the headlines and the eye-witness accounts, try to imagine the social and political climate during the trials. Do you think the language is representative of people’s attitudes during this time? Prove it! Show me examples and explain the conclusions you can draw based on language from the era. You can compile this in either a PowerPoint or a Prezi. Prezi is easy to use and fun! Go to www.prezi.com Again, you will have to sign up for a free account with an email address.
3. Definition Essay- (This is a separate assignment from this project, but it is obviously related, so I am including prompt/instructions here)

Prompt: Write an essay defining one of the following concepts: prejudice integrity justice
Honors: Aside from using To Kill a Mockingbird as a source to support your definition, you must also use at least TWO other external sources (historical or current event, news articles, any excerpted materials from class, etc.).
